24 Apr Driver Profile: Denis Hogan. Supercharged E36 M3
In the first of our Open Endurance Series car & driver profiles we’re delighted to introduce Denis Hogan and his supercharged BMW E36 M3. Denis is a seasoned hillclimber with a karting background and has competed in the Phoenix Park and several saloon libre races over the years.
For 2018 Denis wanted a new challenge with a bit more seat time – The Open Endurance Series will certainly offer that!
1994 E36 M3, 3.0l 24v with a Rotrex Supercharger. The engine is running stock internals, so the boost is relatively low for the sake of reliability. The car is running full coilovers all round. Currently weighs approximately 1100kg in hillclimb spec. This will probably increase with the addition of a larger tank and plumbed in extinguisher. Overall the car is very reliable, but long distance reliability hasn’t been tested since fitting the supercharger.

Like many of us It was always cars, cars, cars in the Hogan Household growing up. Denis’s father was always into motorsport, so of course it rubbed off on him! He started karting at the age of ten with absolutely no success! then moved to Hillclimbing in his father’s Hillman Avenger pushrod back in 1998 and absolutely loved it. Over the years, he was eventually allowed out in the legendary “Blue Avenger” – a 1600 BRM powered two door Avenger and fell in love with it instantly. It is still the benchmark for every car he drives. Back in 2005 the father & son team picked up an E36 M3, which they have been developing (slowly) ever since. Denis has competed in Class 3B (Unlimited Saloons) in several Hillclimb Championships in the M3 as well as doing a number of Libre Saloon races in Mondello and the Phoenix Park.
